50-Hour Foundation Course in Yoga
Every yoga journey needs a strong starting point, and this course is designed to be exactly that. As your first structured step into the practice, it introduces you to the core dimensions of yoga: its techniques, its practical relevance to daily life, and the cultural and philosophical roots it grows from within the Indian tradition.
Purpose of the IYA Foundation Yoga Course Certification
This certification exists to establish a shared, dependable standard for yoga professionals, regardless of which institute they trained at. The goal is simple: wherever an IYA-certified professional teaches, students can trust they’re receiving instruction grounded in the same fundamental knowledge and competency.
What You Receive
A permanent certificate from the Indian Yoga Association (IYA), complimentary Yoga Professional membership with IYA, and eligibility to sit for the YCB (Yoga Certification Board) exam under the Government of India.
Why This Certification Matters
IYA maintains a public portal listing certified professionals under this scheme, giving certified teachers greater visibility and access to opportunities they might not otherwise reach.
Can You Teach?
Yes. Once certified, you’re equipped to teach foundational yoga and the Common Yoga Protocol — including at public events like International Day of Yoga, in community and preventive-health settings, and independently through your own classes at parks, residential communities, wellness centers, and beyond.
The Role of the Indian Yoga Association
IYA sets the official syllabus for each course and accredits institutes authorized to deliver it. Manjushree Yoga Vidyalaya is an accredited member institute for this course. Certificates issued by accredited institutes are permanent once granted, and IYA retains the right to audit courses conducted under its accreditation to maintain consistent quality.

This session opens with cleansing and detox practices, including nasal cleansing (Jal Neti) and eye cleansing (Netra Dhoti), followed by Pranayama (breathing) practices. This is followed by physical postures (Asana) inside the studio, drawing from a multi-style approach that shifts across Traditional Hatha Yoga, Sun Salutations, and Iyengar-inspired practice. The session closes with a guided Yoga Nidra relaxation for deep rest and overall wellbeing, ending with prayers for humanity and mantra chanting.
Second Lesson — Monday to Friday, 3:00 p.m.
Yogic philosophy as per the prescribed syllabus, drawn from ancient Indian texts, along with Pranayama practices and meditation through various techniques including Mudras, Trataka (light-gazing in a dark room), and Mantra chanting.

Multi-style yoga practice.
Guidelines for Students & Guests
Once you’ve enrolled in a course at Manjushree Yoga Vidyalaya, we ask every student to embrace the following guidelines in the spirit of being part of our yoga community — not as restrictions, but as shared commitments that keep the learning environment focused and peaceful for everyone.
Manjushree Yoga Vidyalaya is a place of practice and learning, not a hotel or guesthouse. We ask all students to be mindful of this, keeping in mind that our shared goal is to protect an atmosphere that supports genuine reflection and deep learning for every student present:
- In keeping with a sattvic lifestyle, non-vegetarian food (meat, fish, or eggs) is not permitted on the premises.
- Please maintain quiet and stillness during all classes; personal questions are welcome after the session ends.
- For everyone’s safety and wellbeing, residential students are asked to return to the premises no later than 10 p.m.
- All students are expected to attend scheduled classes, meditation sessions, and prayers regularly. Exemptions are only made for genuine health reasons.
- Smoking, alcohol, and any form of intoxicants are strictly not permitted on the premises.
- Please keep music at a low volume within your accommodation, and avoid playing any music after 10 p.m.
- This is your space as much as ours — we ask all students to be respectful of one another and help maintain a warm, family-like atmosphere rooted in care and peace. Anger and conflict have no place here.
- Please help us keep the premises clean. Karma Yoga, small acts of care for shared spaces are part of the practice itself.
- Please dress respectfully at all times. (avoid tank tops, or excessively tight or revealing clothing when you are around Mysuru).
- Friends, relatives, or outside visitors are not permitted inside residential areas, but are welcome to meet students in the reception area.
- Residential students are expected to wash and dry their own clothing; a paid laundry service is also available at a reasonable charge.
- Room or accommodation changes require prior approval, and may occasionally be necessary due to operational or seasonal circumstances.
