About Vastra Dhauti:
Vastra Dhauti is one of the six Shat kriyas cleansing practices in traditional Hatha Yoga, documented in classical yoga texts. This fabric strip is designed specifically to meet the requirements of this traditional practice.
After Your Practice of
Following Vastra Dhauti, it’s traditional to rest quietly for 15–20 minutes before eating anything, allowing the digestive system to settle. When you do eat, keep the first meal light, warm, and easy to digest — a classic choice is soft khichdi (rice and moong dal cooked together) with a small amount of ghee, which is gentle on the stomach and commonly recommended after cleansing kriyas in yogic tradition. Avoid cold foods, raw salads, caffeine, spicy dishes, or anything heavy and oily for the rest of that day, as the digestive system is more sensitive immediately after the practice. Staying warm and avoiding strenuous activity for the remainder of the day is also traditionally advised.
Important note (recommended to keep on the listing): Vastra Dhauti kriya should only be practiced under the direct guidance of a qualified yoga teacher, such as at Manjushree Yoga Vidyalaya. It is not intended for unsupervised or first-time practice.
